CUBC athletes impress at GB Rowing Trials

Putting themselves into contention for selection for the U23 World Championships later in the year, a number of CUBC athletes raced on fast water at Boston, Lincolnshire, and both impressed selectors and perhaps surprised themselves.

With an injury to Iris Powell (Churchill), Gemma King (St. John’s) stepped in to sit in the bow behind Carys Earl (Gonville and Caius) at short notice. Their time in the pair together started in the row up to the start line, but they clicked quickly, improving throughout their piece to place 3rd overall and the fastest U23 W2-. Alumna Freya Keto, rowing for Thames RC, was the 5th fastest sculler overall.

Shortly following this 3 CUBC Men’s pairs took the water with Luca Ferraro (King’s) and Gus John (Wolfson) the fastest U23 pair over the course by a margin of 5 seconds, and second overall. Orlando Morley (Girton) and Luke Beever (Emmanuel) were close behind in 15th, with Joe Travis (Jesus) and Thomas Connor (Churchill) in 24th.
