Project Ely Update

The Cambridge University Boat Clubs are delighted to announce that Morgan Sindall Group PLC has been appointed as the main contractor for construction of the Cambridge University Rowing Facility in Ely with work due to start on 9th November. The contract is for 48 weeks with completion due in October 2016. It is hoped that the Cambridge University squads will be able to start using the site from the beginning of September 2016 as they start their campaigns for the 2017 Boat Races.

There will be an official ‘Sod Cutting’ ceremony on site on Saturday 21st November at 1pm where alumni, friends, family and supporters of the project are invited to gather to officially start this phase of the build. All are most welcome – wellies and spades will be the order of the day – we would love to have you join us for this symbolic moment, please register at www.sodcutting.eventbrite.co.uk

The fundraising campaign for the Ely Boathouse has received fantastic support from literally hundreds of alumni and supporters of all three University rowing clubs. Together with critical support from the University and from a number of non-alumni donors £4.5 million has been raised. The fully fitted boathouse requires a  total of £4.9 million to complete. The final stages of fundraising are underway. To find out more please visit: http://www.cuwbc.org.uk/ely-boathouse-campaign/vision
