Head of the Charles 2014

New England in the Fall – with 500,000 people looking on, the CUWBC crew, with a week together, was keen to make the most of this opportunity to race over a head course. The aim was to work on the processes developed in Ely in the last 6 weeks of training and to execute them under racing conditions.

Heading for the Eliot Bridge, where numerous boats had fallen foul of the difficult steering, the crew overtook Colombia – one goal ticked off! They powerfully drove on, progressively faster to finish 19th.

Chief Coach, Rob Baker, said, “Training on the Charles river and competing in the 50th Head of the Charles provided a great experience for those in our squad who were lucky enough to go. The event is a tremendous standard and very well organised and racing in the company of internationals and top US University programmes is the perfect exposure for our squad as we move towards the 2015 Tideway Boat Races.”

Thank you to Newton for supporting the crew to travel the US to compete, and to Hudson Boat Works and Croker for loan of equipment.
