The 2018 CUWBC Reserve Crew, Blondie will feature 2 of last year’s winning Blondie crew, a double Junior World Champion, and the 2017/18 President Daphne Martschenko who brings experience from the 2015 and 2016 Boat Races and 2 World U23 Championships.
The crew will be stroked by Amelia Perrin (Trinity) an Undergraduate student in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic. Amelia learned to row at Cantabrigian Rowing Club in Cambridge and won the Club Eight with them at Henley Women’s Regatta last year.
Amelia went to school at the Stephen Perse Foundation in Cambridge, as did Larkin Sayre (Wolfson) who will sit in the 6 seat. Larkin learned to row at MIT, USA before coming to Cambridge.
Lucy Pike (Trinity Hall) will sit in the 7 seat and will be looking for her third consecutive win with Blondie. Lucy learned to row at Trinity Hall Boat club in Cambridge and then through CUWBC’s Development Squad.
CUWBC’s President, Daphne Martschenko (Magdalene) will take the 5 seat this year. Having learned to row at Oakton High School, USA, Daphne moved to Stanford University, USA, before coming to Cambridge. She has represented the USA at 2 World U23 Rowing Championships.
At 4 will be Laura Foster (Queen’s) who learned to row at Princeton National Rowing Association/Mercer in the USA and then at the University of Michgan, USA. Laura said she wanted to continue her rowing after her undergraduate studies, and rowing in the Boat Race is a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.
German-born Anne Beenken (Peterhouse) will take the 3 seat this year. Anne learned to row at Ruderverein Saarbrücken at the age of 10 and brings extensive racing experience having won two gold medals at previous World Rowing Junior championships and a Bronze (2014) and Silver (2016) medal at the World U23 Rowing Championships.
Emma Andrews (Pembroke), also returning for another year in Blondie. Emma learned to row at Putney High School and has raced at Henley Women’s Regatta, and represented Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse before coming to Cambridge.
At Bow, Pippa Dakin (Newnham). An undergraduate student in Physical Natural Sciences, Pippa learned to row at Newnham College Boat Club, and with the CUWBC Development Squad.
The crew will be steered by Sophie Wrixon (Darwin) who learned her skills at Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club on the Isle of Wight and then developed her skills at Exeter University Boat Club.
Blondie will race against “Osiris” at 15:46 on Saturday 24th March.
