CUBC names its 2024 Henley Royal Regatta Crews

In the most sizeable entry for CUBC in several years, CUBC has entered 1 women’s and 3 men’s crews as it seeks to take wins in both student and intermediate events for the first time in several years.

The Visitors’ Challenge Cup:

2025 Openweight President Luca Ferraro (King’s) is joined by 2024 Blue Boat athlete Kenneth Coplan (Hughes Hall), along with Bastian Secher (Roskilde RK, Denmark) and Sam Sullivan (Penn, USA) in a hugely strong crew which will hope to go all the way in the Intermediate Coxless Four.

The Prince Albert Challenge Cup:

CUBC’s strength in depth is illustrated in this crew, with members from Goldie, the Club’s Lightweight Squad and its 3rd 8 all represented in this boat. Multiple Goldie winner Cameron Mackenzie (Gonville and Caius) strokes, with 3rd VIII athletes William Wauchope (Gonville and Caius) and Garrett Overholser (Jesus) in the middle of the boat, with Thomas Heppel (St. Catharine’s) in the bow. Steered by Kate Crowley (Sidney Sussex) they raced well at Met Regatta to place 2nd overall in Champ 4+ behind University of London’s top crew.

The Island Challenge Cup

Seven members of the winning 2024 Women’s Blue Boat are represented in this crew, which will race against the best women’s university crews across the UK, Europe, and the USA. After BUCS and Bumps, CUBC’s crew has picked up speed and will look to make a substantial impact and go deep into the week’s racing. Hannah Murphy (Girton) returns to cox, joined by Clare Hole (St. Catharine’s), Carys Earl (Gonville and Caius), Annabel Stevens (Homerton), Jenna Armstrong (Jesus), Carina Graf (Emmanuel), Jo Matthews (St. John’s), Gemma King (St. John’s), and Molly Foxell (Pembroke)

The Ladies Challenge Plate

Although entered in the Temple, good results at Met Regatta where the crew won Open 8s and BUCS where half the crew won Champ 4- and the other half placed 2nd in Champ 4+, the Regatta Stewards have placed the crew in the Ladies’ Plate where they will race against crews including the Princeton 1V and Oxford Brookes. Jake Intrater (Wolfson) moves up from Goldie, whilst Matt Edge retains the stroke seat from this year’s 2024 Men’s Blue Boat. Seb Benzecry (Jesus) moves to 7, and backing up the stern pair are Martin Amethier (Peterhouse), Dane Halkiw (Jesus), Gus John (Wolfson), Joe Travis (Jesus), Noam Mouelle (Hughes Hall), and Luke Beever (St. Catharine’s).

We wish all our crews great racing, and also our many alumni racing.
