The 2026 World Rowing Championships took place in Amsterdam from 24-30 August, with 14 CUBC alumni and students representing their countries on the world stage.
Across 10 A-finals, Cambridge connections helped secure an impressive haul of 10 medals.
CUBC Men’s Chief Coach Rob Baker played a key role in the Netherlands men’s sweep programme, where the Dutch Men’s Eight claimed gold and set a new World Best Time of 5:17.75, while the Men’s Four secured silver.
Among the students and alumni competing, 2026 Blue Gabriel Obholzer won silver with Team GB’s Men’s Eight. Alumna Imogen Grant also took silver for Great Britain in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls.
Six Cambridge Blues returned home with bronze medals. James Robson, Douwe de Graaf and George Bourne formed three of the Team GB Men’s Four, while Camille VanderMeer, Claire Collins and Megan Lee helped the USA Women’s Eight secure a place on the podium.
Congratulations also to Paige Badenhorst (South Africa Women’s Single Sculls), Leonard Brahms (Germany Men’s Pair and Mixed Eight), Freddy Breuer (Germany Men’s Eight), Antonia Galland (Germany Women’s Eight), Jan Helmich (Germany Para Mixed Four), Samantha Morton (Australia Women’s Eight), and Charlotte Ebel (Germany Women’s Spare) on representing their national teams.
