CUBC alumni and members of the current squad enjoyed a medal-laden weekend at World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne, the final World Cup of the season, securing two golds and two silvers.
With lightweight rowing no longer part of the Olympic programme, Olympic Champion and alumna Imogen Grant made an impressive debut in a new combination alongside Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson and Finnola Stratton. The quartet delivered a commanding performance to take gold for Great Britain in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls. Speaking to British Rowing afterwards, Grant said: “I’m just so excited to see what we can do, because that was so good and I think there’s so much more to come.”
In the Men’s Four, reigning World Champions and 2025 Blues James Robson, Douwe de Graaf and George Bourne combined with Dan Graham to take the victory in a tightly contested race, holding off Romania and France to claim gold for Great Britain. Bourne reflected: “It means a lot. Congratulations to France and Romania because that was super tough and they kept coming the whole way. To win here is very special; it feels like the Monaco of rowing, a jewel that shines slightly brighter. I’ve got a bit of personal history here from the past couple of years, and that’s exactly the sort of race I’d like on the Rotsee. To do it with these guys is just awesome.”
2025 Women’s Blue Boat stroke Samantha Morton played a key role from the five-seat in the Australian Women’s Eight, helping her crew to silver, finishing behind Great Britain and ahead of Team USA.
Elsewhere, 2026 Blue Gabriel Obholzer was part of the British men’s eight that secured a second silver, racing alongside Oxford’s 2026 Blue Harry Geffen. The crew finished just behind the Netherlands, with Australia in third. Obholzer reflected: “Even though we’re disappointed to lose, we love racing like that. It’s so tight across the field. We’ll be back after some training, but hats off to all the crews, it was some great racing and a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, Frederik Breuer, stroke of the 2026 Men’s Blue Boat, raced in the Men’s Pair alongside 2026 Goldie’s Leonard Brahms. The duo placed fourth in the B final, finishing tenth overall.
Everyone at CUBC warmly congratulates all those involved on their superb performances and wishes them every success for the upcoming World Championships.
