The Women’s Boat Race Centenary — Have your say

Message from: Siobhan Cassidy, Chair The Boat Race Company

Dear CUBC Alumni,

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Boat Race, I would like to invite CUBC and OUBC Blues to an informal online meeting to hear about The Boat Race’s early plans and, importantly, to ask you to help shape the celebrations.

The first Women’s Boat Race in 1927 took place against a backdrop of profound social change. Those pioneering student-athletes rowed not for medals but for visibility. Their quiet determination helped shift the course of sport and society, leaving a legacy that speaks directly to the values of our time. A century later, the Women’s Boat Race stands unique in world sport. Unlike almost every other elite women’s event, from the Tour de France to Wimbledon, it matches its men’s counterpart in every respect: the same course, equipment, funding, broadcast partner, rules, and prize. In doing so, it exemplifies the principles of fairness, perseverance, and excellence.

As one of the women or men who carried that legacy forward, your voice matters. We would love you to join us and help ensure this centenary celebration honours extraordinary progress and the women who powered it.

Can’t make the meeting? No problem! Please register and we will share a recording after the meeting. We will also take the opportunity to contact you with updates around the Centenary countdown and celebration.

Meeting details:
Date: Wednesday 28 January 2026.
Time: 19:00-20.00
