We look forward to this coming Wednesday’s Crew Announcement at Battersea Power Station, when we will be proud to unveil our crews for the 2025 Boat Race.
In the past week there has been considerable media and social media coverage around eligibility criteria for the event. The rules in place have been agreed by both Clubs, and likewise we’ve agreed to the authority of an independent Interpretation Panel. It is based on their interpretation of the rules that some athletes have been ruled ineligible, decisions which we have accepted.
The rules were drafted and agreed in good faith with the intention of protecting the integrity and original spirit of the Boat Race. We intend to work with OUBC to review the rules, and processes, following the 2025 Boat Races, to ensure the eligibility criteria are as clear and equitable as possible, for everyone’s benefit. We must jointly take responsibility for improving the process.
We understand how disappointed our students are who are unable to race. They, along with our selected Crews, are now focused on the fast approaching 2025 Boat Race. As a united Club we are looking ahead to those races and wish our competing athletes the very best of luck in April.
