Vale Bruce Philp [B 82, 83, Goldie 84]

The Club is sad to inform its members of the recent death of Bruce Philp. Coming up to Downing from Bryanston, Bruce read Natural Sciences then Medicine. Powerful and athletic, and had an immediate impact on CUBC, rowing in two Blue Boats, in 1982 and 1983. Unsuccessful in both those races, he rowed in the winning Goldie crew in 1984.

Moving to Oxford to complete his medical studies, he then became the first man to race for both Universities in the Boat Race, rowing successfully in the 1985 OUBC Blue Boat, and then as OUBC President in 1986 in the losing OUBC crew.

After coming down from Oxford, he became a plastic surgeon specialising in burns and trauma reconstruction, and supported trauma patients after the Paddington Rail crash, Soho nail bomb attack, and the 7/7 bombings.

Members will be informed of funeral and memorial details when they become available.
