Race Report: CUBC Women’s LWTs vs. Imperial “A” – Saturday 5th March

Lightweight President Casey Shepheard won the toss, and chose Surrey At the coin toss we won and chose Surrey for the first piece of the morning, running from the Boat Race Stone to the Blue Doors.

Imperial took a jump on the LWTs off the start, holding half a length through very choppy water and whitecaps as the crews passed Fulham Football Ground. Patiently, the LWTs regained ground on Imperial and as the water flattened out after the Mile Post, they moved up on Imperial’s stern. Pulling level just before Hammersmith, the LWTs walked though Imperial in the last two minutes of the piece to take the second piece by a half length of clear water.

The second piece took the crews from the top of Chiswick Eyot to the finish line at Mortlake, the LWTs having the outside of Barnes Bend. Imperial made a strong push off the line to take a lead of 1/2 length off the LWTs, until a push by Imperial with 300m to go saw them draw out to nearly a length’s lead.
