In a departure from over 20 years of winter training camps, CUBC’s crews are training this year at CERLAC, in North Western Spain.

The change in venue was prompted partly by the facilities offered at CERLAC, but also by the training opportunities at the reservoir.Women’s Chief Coach Paddy Ryan notes, “we’ve found over the last few years that our athletes have benefited from longer, continuous rowing over the camp period, and the 16k of continuous rowing here is great”.

The opportunity to work with crews to push each other in the selection process and on water that can be challenging is also appealing to Men’s Chief Coach Rob Baker, who said, “We can get all types of conditions here depending on which way we row, and I’ve been enjoying seeing our crews push for advantages around corners just as they will be doing on Race Day.
