On 10th and 11th July 2019, Larkin Sayre (Emmanuel College) took a break from summer training and traveled to Sheffield to take part in the 2019 UK Semiconductors Conference at Sheffield Hallam University. While there, she won the Institute of Physics Research Communication Competition.
Larkin says, “I presented my first year research on ultra-thin solar cells for space applications (basically the solar panels that go onto satellites, the space station and any other space craft!) I also took part in a 3 minute presentation of my research to a non-technical audience. I’m excited to have won first prize in the competition! Now it’s back to work on improving the solar cells!”
Larkin is a first-year PhD student in the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy working under Dr. Louise Hirst. Larkin was also in this year’s winning Blue Boat and is the CUWBC President. She graduated from MIT in 2017.
