Jess Godden, Lightweight Women’s Captain writes.. The CUWBC Lightweights had a great race in their Boat Race against Oxford on Henley Reach last Saturday. Both crews started very fast with the Cambridge ahead for the first part of the race. As both crews settled, Oxford managed a slightly faster boat speed and began to pull back and edge ahead. The crews were within three seats of each other at the 1000m mark but, as the race unfolded, Oxford began to pull ahead, found clear water and won the race. Whilst the crew was disappointed to lose, they are pleased with how they rowed on the day and how much they have improved over the course of the season. The squad is taking a couple of weeks off to recover and rest and they will be back and ready to race at BUCS, hopefully in the eight and in some smaller boats. I am confident that this will provide a good platform for returners for next season’s campaign and I would like to thank Astrid and the rest of the coaching team for all their hard work throughout the season. Additionally, thank you so much to all the alumni who sent us flowers, cards and cakes – all were very much appreciated.
