Fixture No 2 – 23rd February vs Oxford Brookes University

FRIENDLY FIXTURE RIVALRY AS CAMBRIDGE RACE ‘BROOKES’ THIS WEEKEND!

CUWBC’s first fixture of The 2020 Boat Race season took place last weekend in mild conditions on the Championship Course against Nereus.  This weekend sees all 3 of our Boat Race crews take on Oxford Brookes University

Racing ‘Brookes’ is always exciting as the Women’s squad is one of the leading programs in the UK.  ‘Brookes’ has multiple Henley wins,  BUCS titles and a track record of producing rowers for the GB Rowing team.    There is friendly rivalry between Cambridge and Brookes as the Women’s Coach, Richard Chambers was previously Assistant Men’s Coach at Cambridge.

Chief Coach Robert Weber says,

“We are looking forward to productive racing with Brookes, whom we expect will bring three fast crews. We just hope the weather cooperates as well as it did last weekend!”

Many races around the UK have been cancelled over recent weeks, however, we are hoping the weather is turning and we can look forward to some great racing.   The Cambridge crews are building into the last phase of training and preparation ahead of the Boat Races next month.  This is the first fixture where the Chief Coach has announced the provisional Boat Race crew line ups.

Lightweight Women crew will race at 12:40

Open-Weight Reserve Crew ‘Blondie’ race at 12:55

Blue Boat race at 13:10

Weekends on the Tideway would not be possible without our generous hosts Thames Rowing Club . We love having a ‘home away from home’ in Putney.

The Lightweight Boat Race will take place on The Championship Course for the first time on Sunday 15th March and the Open-Weight Boat Race will take place on Sunday 29th March.

The crews racing contain representatives from 16 different colleges. To find out more details about our squad go to our 2020 Squad Page.
