On the 2nd June, Anna Simpson and Elselijn Kingma (BB ‘07) competed at the Metropolitan Regatta, held at Dorney Lake. They entered WS2 2-, which comprised 10 crews, two heats and a final. Since there were only 4 crews in their heat, they only needed to beat one crew to get through to the final, which they did so comfortably, winding down well before the finish in order to conserve their efforts for the final.
The final was a line up of Cambridge, Edinburgh University (with Alla Dubrovnina, BB ‘05), Kingston RC, Mortlake Anglian & Alpha BC, York City RC and ULWBC. CUW this time shot out of the start to take an early lead on Kingston and Edinburgh, and settled into their race rhythm. They kept steadily inching away from their opposition to lead by a length by 1000m, a position which they successfully defended to the finish, despite a late surge by the MA&ABC crew.
On Sunday the pair raced WS1 2-, finishing fourth behind strong crews from Mortlake, Reading Boatclub and a Auriel Kensington Composite. They beat all other University crews in this event including, Edinburgh and London.
