This weekend, the full squad travelled to the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont for some final sparring in the run up to the Henley Boat Races. The lake failed to live up to its reputation for strong winds with the crews being pleasantly surprised by fairly flat water, even if the conditions were a little chilly.
The weekend was a mixture of competitive paddling and higher rate pieces over the two days, taking advantage of the good conditions and the buoyed course.
Saturday’s racing involved some 2km rate capped pieces with the three CUW crews lining up next to Nottingham all three crews had some powerful and committed rows, transferring their solid performances from BUCS Head last weekend onto the shorter course. Returning on Sunday, well rested and raring to go after Saturday’s good results, the crews lined up for some shorter free rate pieces.
The squad came away from the weekend with some good results, having gathered some times from the 2km course as well as some areas to work on, ready to push on into the last month of training. CUWBC would like to thank Nottingham Rowing Club for their hospitality and an excellent weekend of racing.
