In what was a fantastic weekend, current CUW triallists and CUW alumnae met in three races on the Tideway this weekend. Utilising the first 1.7km of the mens’ boat race course (Putney to Harrods) with the flood tide, the crews raced pairwise in a style reminiscent of the HBRs.
Boating from Imperial College Boat House, each side was able to field two complete crews, with the third triallist boat having to take on reinforcements from the opposition due to availability.
The races were kindly umpired by Kieran West, who saw each to the following results:
“A” Crews: Triallists won by approximately 1 length
“B” Crews: Alumnae won by a small margin after a tense battle for water involving clashes and a boat stopping crab, resulting in a restart near Harrods.
“C” Crews: “Alumnae/Triallist Composite” won easily.
Photographs to follow shortly, assuming they can be sourced.
Both sides reconciled and reminisced afterwards at IC over mulled wine and mince pies.
