Back to the River where it all began!

CUWBC & CULRC crews take to the River Cam for Fairbairn Cup Races 2019

Three crews will be representing Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club (CUWBC) and Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club (CULRC) today.  They will be racing at the Fairbairn Cup Races, organised by Jesus College Boat Club.

CUWBC and CULRC (racing as Granta) are looking forward to racing today along the River Cam in the final day of the Michaelmas Term.

CULRC President, Teague Smith (Girton College) says,

“Over 60% of this year’s squad learned to row with their college. These athletes form the backbone of our club and make it what it is today. It is a great pleasure to be racing on the Cam alongside the clubs that kickstarted our athletes’ rowing careers.”

The race takes place along the River Cam, starting outside Jesus College Boat Club and finishing 4.3km downstream.  The event was founded by Steve Fairbairn one of the most influential characters in the history of Jesus College Boat Club and Cambridge rowing.
