As part of the University of Cambridge Alumni Festival 2018 we held a Behind the Scenes event, hosting alumni, supporters and friends within the beautiful surroundings of the Ely Boathouse.
This ‘open-house’ event gave visitors the opportunity to meet our fabulous student athletes and Coaches as they came in from their early morning training session.
The student athletes were delighted to offer tours of their world class training facilities and share insights into what it takes to win a Boat Race!
One of the highlights for the current squad was to cheer the CUWBC Alumni 1988 Lightweight Boat Race crew as they took to the water for the first time in 30 years, displaying the same high level of skill and enthusiasm that brought them success when they raced in Henley.
A special Honorary CUWBC Membership presentation was made to Felicity Rutland (photographed with Roger Silk) who has supported the Women’s Boat Club by hosting crews ahead of the Boat Races, in her home at Henley for nearly 40 years, Felicity is a key part of the success of CUWBC and it was a wonderful opportunity to recognise her important role within the Club.
CUWBC Alumni who were not able to attend on Sunday were invited to submit messages of gratitude to Felicity which can be read here.
Guests were further brought into the life of a student athlete as they took instruction from Strength & Conditioning Coach Milosz Wrobel. After an interesting presentation from Milosz, everyone was invited to take to the floor and try some of the exercises that make Cambridge rowers so strong and athletic!
Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club alum Tony Narula named their Coaching Launch “Spirit of Burma”.
Thank you to Jane and Kath for organising the event and to everyone who came along!
