CUBC is sad to advise that, following direct government directives and measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the 2020 Boat Races have been cancelled.
This is bitter news for the entire CUBC Squad and our coaching & support team who, since September 2019, have had the single aim of winning the Boat Race on 29 March 2020.
The loss of the athletes’ opportunity to validate their 2020 Boat Race campaign in the time-honoured manner has a huge impact on the athletes and Coaches as it has on their opposition at Oxford, but we are mindful that the situation that the UK faces is unprecedented.
Our President, Freddie Davidson, has led an outstanding squad and campaign in the finest traditions of the Club. Our desire to compete against Oxford remains as keen as ever and we will seek ways to do this. For now, however, we are in a rapidly changing situation of wider societal concern. The welfare of our student-athletes remains paramount and they will be supported to the full extent.
Further communications will follow, but for now, our common concern is that all students, members, families and supporters remain healthy.
