2019 Goldie Crew Announcement

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) has today confirmed the line-up for the reserve crew (“Goldie”) who will race against Oxford’s reserve crew (“Isis”) on Sunday 7 April 2019.

In 2018 Goldie beat Isis by 2 ½ lengths. 4 of last year’s crew will return for 2019 looking to repeat that victory. Speaking on the selection, CUBC Assistant Coach Richard Chambers said:

“Competition for Goldie has been fierce with 8 good rowers not making the final crew. This year Goldie have been a great training crew for the Blue Boat which shows the depth of the Squad that we have this year and has provided opportunities for everyone to be challenged”

3 members of this year’s Goldie crew have been part of the successful CUBC Development Squad including Jonty Page and Tim Nugent. Having won the Lightweight Boat Race last year, bowman Calum MacRae decided to try the CUBC Development Squad last summer and has earned himself a place for this year’s Boat Race.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2062″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][vc_column_text]Hugo Durward in the 2 seat was formerly a coach at Fulham Reach Boat Club which has a strong partnership with The Boat Races. In 2018, Hugo was awarded the British Rowing Rising Star of the year award. Speaking about Hugo after the awards, Meghann Jackson, Fulham Reach BC Schools Manager, said,

“Hugo is an absolute stalwart at our club. He has coached some of our most deprived schools and has given those students an incredible opportunity and insight to challenge themselves, break down the perceived barriers and really excel.”

The crew will be coxed by Charlie Marcus who previously coxed at Hampton School. In 2016, Charlie represented Great Britain coxing the Junior Men’s Eight to double victory at the Coupe de la Jeunesse.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2064″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][vc_column_text]The crew selected, representing 7 of the Cambridge colleges is:
