CUBC’s alumni and current students made a strong showing at HRR 2023, headlined by wins for alumni Tom George, Ollie Wynne-Griffith, Freddie Davidson, Sarah Portsmouth, and Tom Strudwick. CUBC current students raced in events from singles to coxed and coxless fours, progressing through until Henley Friday, and on the weekend our alumni continued to carry the flag.

Henley Tuesday: our Temple Challenge Cup crew made a dominant performance against Durham “C”, and Crabtree were defeated in the Wyfolds by Thames “A”, including Goldie Tom Strudwick.

Henley Wednesday: in one of the races of the day, a strong performance for Cambridge was a surprise for Princeton University, but the men from Carnegie Lake were too quick. The day finished with a loss in the Prince Albert against Adams House, Harvard, a crew composed of a mixture of Harvard students.

Henley Thursday: CUBC’s race for the day was a dominant performance by Freya Keto, who belied the fact that it was her third regatta in the 1x in an easy win over Wake of City of Oxford RC.

Henley Friday: Freya Keto put up a great fight against the experienced Australian Grzeskowiak in the fastest race of the day in the Princess Royal. Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George had a comfortable win against Andrews and Ernst of Isis, whilst Caoimhe Dempsey and Isabelle Bastian took the experienced GB Development pair of Standing and Perry but found the going tough and recorded a 4 length lead. The Visitors’ crew had a slower start and were taken to clear water by Princeton but ran out of water and recorded a 3/4 length loss. CUBC’s final race of the day was Noam Mouelle and Seb Benzecry, who raced the Canadian National Team members Walkey and Cullen but were defeated by the Canadians by 3 lengths.
